Eager to extend Emnes stay

14 January 2017

Boss Owen Coyle remains keen to retain the services of striker Marvin Emnes.

The Dutchman's loan spell ends after this Saturday's match at Ipswich Town, but the manager would love to extend his Ewood stay.

Discussions have already taken place with his parent club Swansea City with Coyle hoping for a positive outcome.

"Marvin Emnes' loan expires after the Ipswich game and we would love to keep him at the football club," the manager told Rovers PlayerHD.

"So it is a case of looking to get a deal agreed, whether that is Marvin being here permanently or whether it is extending his loan until the end of the season.

"We would like Marvin to be at Blackburn Rovers and we'll continue to pursue that."

Emnes started his loan spell with Rovers in sensational fashion, netting three times in his first four league outings. If he plays later this afternoon at Portman Road it will be his 20th outing in Rovers colours.

Coyle admits that the attacker hasn't quite hit the heights he showed in the opening months of the season, but knows that he possesses that flair to make a difference to his squad.

"When he came in he really set the place alight," added Coyle. "Then he got a couple of niggling injuries but within that he has shown a lot of flashes.

"I'd love to get him back to that level as when he came in the door because he is a real difference maker, a real attacking threat at the top end of the pitch and he's a different flavour from what the other players are.

"So it would be nice to get him here and be part of what we are doing. Ultimately it is up to us to come to some kind of agreement with Swansea."

Fans who haven't yet purchased tickets for this afternoon's match against Ipswich Town can pay on the day at Portman Road.
