Rovers Ladies host Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow in the third round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup.
The game has been labelled the ‘tie of the round’ after both teams have registered remarkable unbeaten campaigns in all competitions so far this season and sit top of their respective leagues.
The similarities don’t stop there, as both teams have similar league records too, with just one draw denying each team a 100% winning league record.
Despite Spurs’ impressive stats this season, Rovers manager Gemma Donnelly insists they won’t do anything differently in the build-up to the game.
“We are approaching the Tottenham game like every other game,” she said. “We have prepared accordingly, to give the players the best opportunity to understand the opposition’s strengths and weaknesses.
“We have a great amount of detail on Spurs. We have worked with the players throughout the week on the areas we feel they need to be aware of.”
Rovers have stepped up for the big occasion regularly this season and Donnelly is confident that her players can do it again.
“The girls have been able to do what is expected consistently through the season so far,” she added. “We have had some fantastic games and played fantastic football, but ultimately the target has to be purely to win.
“The players will want to do well and deliver a performance worthy of a win, but it’s a cup game and anything can happen.”
The match will be played at Rovers’ usual home venue, The Sir Tom Finney Stadium, Bamber Bridge, kick-off 2pm. Admission is £3 for adults, £1 for concessions and free for Rovers season ticket holders. All supporters are welcome.
