Owen Coyle was rightly proud of his side's performance as they went down 2-1 to Manchester United in the Emirates FA Cup.

A Zlatan Ibrahimovic strike 14 minutes from time settled a pulsating cup-tie at Ewood Park.

Rovers stunned United by grabbing the opening goal. Danny Graham firing home emphatically after excellent work from Marvin Emnes.

But after Marcus Rashford levelled, the match could have gone either way until Ibrahimovic latched onto a Paul Pogba pass to fire United into a quarter-final tie with Chelsea.

"We were a credit to ourselves to ourselves today with the way we went about it," the manager told Radio Rovers.

"Our energy, the quality of our passing, the first goal was fit for any stage in world football it was such a fantastic team goal. And we created opportunities throughout the game.

"Charlie Mulgrew has one chalked off, then at the end Marvin Emnes and Anthony Stokes both went close, I thought we were set for a replay.

"It was very good play from us today against the quality that they have and the speed that they play with such great technical ability.

"At 1-1 the game could have gone either way, we looked very dangerous on the counter-attack, and I don't recall Jason Steele having too many saves to make in the game.

"I have to say a huge thank you to the fans today I thought they were outstanding from the first whistle to the last and the players responded to that. It made an unbelievable difference.

"We really put in a spirited performance and that is the spirit that we need to drive us forward. We have to use this moving into 15 cup finals starting with Burton on Friday."
