Rovers are pleased to announce that promising young defender Matthew Platt has signed a new and extended contract with the club.

The 20-year-old, who is a product of the club’s Academy, has put pen-to-paper on a new deal which will keep him at Ewood Park until June 2019.

A mainstay at the heart of the defence for Rovers’ high-flying Under-23s, who currently sit second in the Premier League 2 table, Platt has also made three appearances for Tony Mowbray’s senior side in this season’s Checkatrade Trophy.

Platt made his debut in the 1-0 victory over Stoke City’s Under-21s at the end of August, before being handed his first start in the second group game against Bury in October. His third first team appearance again came as a first-half substitute in last month’s 1-1 draw away to Rochdale.

The tall and commanding centre back, who spent time on loan at Barrow last season, joins fellow Academy graduates Lewis Hardcastle, Willem Tomlinson, Scott Wharton and Ryan Nyambe in committing his future to the club in recent weeks.

Everyone at Rovers would like to congratulate Matty on his new deal.
