Tony Mowbray was pleased to see his Rovers side produce a professional performance to see off Crewe and advance to the Emirates FA Cup third round on Wednesday.
Danny Graham's well-taken goal on 24 minutes ultimately separated the sides amid tricky conditions at the Alexandra Stadium, and means the Blues will face Hull City in the next round.
Speaking after the game, Mowbray was happy to see his players come through a potentially tough tie.
"The main thing is that we're into the next round. The players worked extremely hard and put a lot into the game tonight," he said.
"Crewe went very direct late on, but we're pleased to be through to the third round.
"We created some great opportunities, though some didn't materialise into scoring chances. It was okay, there was lots of good stuff.
"It was a terrible night for football during the first half, the weather was something we had to overcome as well, but there are no injuries.
"We now have two days to recover for Charlton at the weekend.
"It was just important to get this game out of the way, it would have been a burden if it had dragged into next week.
"We're pleased to get this one out of the way."
