Although he admitted he was disappointed to only get a draw, Peter Whittingham insists a draw with Scunthorpe will be seen as a decent point - but only if Rovers win at Rotherham on New Year's Day.
Whittingham played the full 90 minutes in the only change for Tony Mowbray for the game against Graham Alexander's Iron.
And he's adament that Rovers can look back and be content with the point, but only if the team can follow it up with victory at the New York Stadium on Monday afternoon.
"It's frustrating because I think we dominated the majority of the game, Peter told iFollow.
"We created a number of chances that on another day go into the back of the net. It's frustrating to not get the three points but we have to take the positives.
"We knocked the ball around well, kept possession and created chances against a very good team.
"The games come thick and fast and if we win against Rotherham on Monday then this looks to be an alright result for us.
"We kept pressing and trying to score and they were hanging on in times. After Wigan dropped points on Friday night we did see this as a good opportunity for us but it wasn't to be."
And Whittingham is looking to the future, believing 2018 could well be a good year for Rovers fans as the team head into a crucial second half of the campaign.
"We have played well and I feel we're in good shape heading into 2018," Whittingham said.
"We have a great squad here to keep plugging away and picking up three points on a regular basis.
"We're both in the same boat with Rotherham playing today. It'll be tough there but we can take confidence from this form and we'll keep going forward."
