Tony Mowbray still hopes to have one further addition signed in time for Saturday's league opener at Southend United.
The Rovers boss has certainly been busy this pre-season with seven new arrivals to date, and he's eager for an eighth to be completed in time to travel with the rest of the squad to Roots Hall.
I feel that the squad has got a decent balance to it, it just maybe needs padding out a little bit.
"We are continuing to build a squad at this football club and we've got another three and a bit weeks to try and get the numbers right and have a squad that we feel - at least until the new year - can be competitive," said Mowbray.
"There's a lot of work, I still feel we need quite a few more players just to deepen the squad off.
"They'll probably be loan players, but we'll see. If the right player comes along we'll see. Just to help the existing players that we've got.
"I feel that the squad has got a decent balance to it, it just maybe needs padding out a little bit.
"I'm looking at all areas of the pitch I'd have to say. Defensively we do need some cover. I like the 11-12-13 players that I can pick a team from and be quite happy with that.
"But the obvious statement is that we are going to pick injuries up over the course of the season and maybe some suspensions, and you need to not to just go to the kids to try and fill in. Particularly in certain areas. I just think we need some more numbers."
