Pleased to have Ben on board

Rovers boss believes new Goalkeeping Coach has earned his opportunity

1 August 2017

Tony Mowbray believes new Goalkeeping Coach Ben Benson has a bright future ahead of him.

The 27-year-old signed a new deal yesterday to confirm his position at first team level, having made the successful step up from the Academy last term.

Benson became part of Mowbray’s backroom team on an interim basis following his appointment as manager in February and the Rovers boss believes he has now earned the permanent promotion.

“I really enjoyed working with Ben last season,” said Mowbray. “He’s very professional about what he does.

“I think he’s a very young goalkeeping coach of course, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not a very good one.

“So I’m going to give him the opportunity to work at first team level. He’s a bright, young goalkeeping coach who hopefully will help develop the goalkeepers over the coming years.”
