Harry and Jayson help find Rovers Idol

11 August 2017

England U20 World Cup winner Harry Chapman revealed that his football journey began on a course similar to Blackburn Rovers Community Trust's Football Camp.

The on loan Middlesbrough winger joined his fellow team mate, Canadian international goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler, in the Blackburn Rovers Indoor Centre to cast a keen eye over the footballing skills of more than 70 children.

Chapman and Leutwiler were both left impressed with what they saw; resulting in a difficult decision of choosing two players whose skills shone the brightest to win a Rovers Idol package. To discover what a Rovers Idol package is, please click here.

Young footballers James and Ella both claimed the prize after coming through two tough rounds, and Chapman was pleased to see how many children had such a keen interest in playing football.

“It was nice to see what skills all the children had in their lockers,” admitted the left winger.

“The two winners showed off some exceptional skills and it is good to see children being active and happy playing football.

“I attended a similar football camp when I was younger during the summer holidays because my mum was working.

“I ended up having a trial at Hartlepool United because of one of these camps so it is great to see Blackburn Rovers Community Trust hosting something similar.”

It has been an entertaining week for the children attending the BRCT Football Camp following visits from the two Rovers stars and the British Army.

The Football Camp is the perfect day for any football mad youngster to have fun, learn new skills and win fantastic prizes.

Nick Jackson-Cooney, senior sport and education development officer, concluded by thanking Harry and Jayson for attending the Football Camp.

“The children have been asking all week which players will be attending and they had a great time showing off their skills.

“Harry and Jayson really got involved and showed a keen interest with everything that was going on. They chose the winners which makes the moment even more special and hopefully James and Ella will always remember the day.”
