David Raya insists he won’t let external expectations detract from the players’ focus of achieving their aims this season.

The Spanish stopper is confident Rovers can make an immediate return to Championship, providing each and every player does their job throughout the course of the campaign.

Raya is expected to start for Rovers in the League One opener at Southend on Saturday and the 21-year-old goalkeeper is excited to get the new season underway.

"Obviously we can't wait to start the season," he said. "We need to start with the right mentality and hopefully start with a win.

"It is a long season and we have to think in the long-term and our aim is to get promotion this year.

"You have to work week to week, but you have to have your goals during the season. So for us coming down from the Championship to League One we have to get back their straight away.

"The lads that have come in have been brilliant. I know you can't predict what will happen, but I think we'll have a strong team.

"There'll be pressure from outside and from the fans, because they'll want us to get back to the Championship straight away, but we cannot feel that.

"We just have to do the right things and if we do our jobs then we'll do alright."
