Blackburn Rovers full backs Derrick Williams and Ryan Nyambe were left impressed with the array of talent on show at the Community Trust’s Football Camp.
The duo regularly face off against tricky wingers on the football pitch, so they were the perfect candidates to be judges for the latest round of Rovers Idol.
Williams and Nyambe’s remit was to judge the football skills of more than 70 players and select two overall winners, with young footballers Alex and Tayo taking the prize.
It is the second time in the past fortnight that two Rovers players have overseen a Rovers Idol session in the Blackburn Rovers Indoor Centre, with Harry Chapman and Jayson Leutwiler doing so earlier this month.
Defender Williams, was happy to see so many young children enjoying playing football only a length of a pitch away from Ewood Park.
He said: "It was great to see so many happy faces and I was surprised how many good players were on the Football Camp, they are all very good for their age.
"It is very good for Blackburn Rovers that the Community Trust is so proactive in this area. It is keeping the children active during the summer holidays."
The winners of the Rovers Idol package will be invited to be a player escort at one of the first team matches at Ewood Park, with the two ultimate winners (one per age group) being given the opportunity to attend the Blackburn Rovers Academy's Player Development Centre for a five week trial.
Ryan Nyambe, who came through the club’s academy system, explained it was a tough call to select the winners of this week’s Rovers Idol contest.
"I enjoyed watching the younger generation having fun at the Football Camp, especially because I came through the club’s academy system.
"It was very tough for both me and Derrick to pick two winners with so many good players and we are looking forward to seeing the winners at a future home game at Ewood Park."
