Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson from Leeds United on a season-long loan.
The 26-year-old came through the ranks at Halmstads BK – the same club Markus Olsson represented before joining Rovers – making his debut in November 2010.
He would go on to make 71 league appearances during a four-year spell, before moving to fellow Swedish side Kalmar FF in January 2015.
Antonsson finished his first season at Kalmar with an impressive 12 goals from 28 appearances and was then the Swedish top-flight’s leading marksman, with 10 goals from his first 12 league games, before Leeds United swooped for his services in June 2016 for a reported £2m fee.
The forward grabbed his first goal in Leeds’ colours on his second appearance, as the Whites knocked Fleetwood Town out of the EFL Cup, but due to the form of Championship top scorer Chris Wood, Antonsson found opportunities limited in his first season at Elland Road, netting three times in 21 appearances.
A prolific goalscorer in his homeland, Antonsson will be hoping to replicate that form during his season-long stay at Ewood Park.
Rovers have been given permission to play their ninth summer signing in this season’s Carabao Cup, Checkatrade Trophy and FA Cup competitions. He has also been registered in time for tomorrow's home game against Doncaster Rovers.
