Damien Johnson hailed the perfect away performance as his development squad continued their fine start to the 2017-18 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Southampton on Friday night.
An 89th minute winner from Joe Nuttall saw the Rovers claim a deserved three points to make it three wins from three Premier League 2 outings.
The Under-23s boss admitted he didn't think a deserved goal would arrive at Staplewood, but was pleased to see another impressive display result in another victory.
"I'm pleased to come away with the win and more importantly I was really pleased with the performance away from home," said Johnson.
"We were against a Southampton side who were looking for a reaction following their defeat last week, so they came at us quite quickly.
"But we coped with them really well, they didn't really cause us too many issues. We always looked a threat, it was a really good away performance.
"We created a number of good chances, their keeper made a number of very good saves, so with the goals that we had been scoring in you think maybe it isn't going to be our night.
"But all credit to the lads, they stuck at it, they kept going forward, we got another chance and Joe took it.
"Overall our shape was very good, we contained them and restricted them to half chances and set-pieces which was really pleasing.
"In terms of an away result, 1-0 is an ideal win."
The Under-23s are back in action next Monday September 4th when they take on Wigan Athletic in the first round of the Lancashire Senior Cup at the County Ground, Leyland - kick-off 7.00pm.
