Rovers Ladies returned to winning ways at the weekend with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Derby County.

Having dropped points for only the second time the previous Sunday, the FA WPL North champions struck four unanswered goals to make it a quick-fire league double over the Rams.

It was a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Derby that saw Rovers clinch the league title just a fortnight ago, but there would be no such dramas on this occasion as a brace from Ella Toone and goals from Saffron Jordan and Ellie Cook gave them their 16th league win of the season.

Both sides battled hard from the off, Rovers with the first chance of the game on 15 minutes as a cross from Jess Holbrook fell into Toone's path, but her effort was well blocked.

Holbrook found Toone again four minutes later when she headed the ball into the box but Derby defended well to clear the danger.

Rovers eventually broke the deadlock on 31, inevitably it would come from another Holbrook delivery. A free-kick into the Derby box was met well by Ellie Cook and she headed home to give the champions the lead.

The visitors then came close to doubling their lead in the 44th minute when Holbrook set Jordan inside the box, but her curling effort hit the crossbar and rebounded kindly into the Derby goalkeepers’ hands.

However the Rovers wasted little time in grabbing their second three minutes into the second half. Great skill from Toone allowed her to thread the ball through to Jordan in on goal and she curled the ball into the top right hand corner.

The Rams threatened a response, but Cook was in the right place to clear the ball off the line to keep the scoreline at 2-0.

And just past the hour mark Rovers made it three as Dan Whitham crossed for Toone and she opened her account for the afternoon with a brilliant improvised goal.

With 15 minutes to go Toone grabbed her second. The forward took the ball past the last line of the Derby defence before finishing well into the bottom right corner.

Rovers Ladies are back in action on Wednesday April 26 in the County Cup final against Fylde Ladies. Kick-off is 7:30pm at The County Ground, Leyland.

ROVERS: Hill, Pearson, McDonald, Cook, Fryer, Stewart, Whitham (sub Rankin 77 mins), Holbrook, Toone (sub Montgomery 87 mins), McCoy, Jordan (sub Taylor 68 mins).
