Fingers crossed over injured duo

Tony Mowbray has admitted that he doesn't expect to be able to include Charlie Mulgrew or Darragh Lenihan in his matchday squad for the last six games of the season.

The defensive pair both sustained ankle injuries in the midweek loss at Reading, and whilst initial x-rays have shown that neither player has sustained a break, they are yet to fully discover the extent of their knocks.

But the Rovers boss isn't too downhearted, believing that it can present other players in his squad the chance to make their mark between now and the end of the campaign.

"Both players had x-rays because the severity of the injuries looked is if they warranted an x-ray to see whether there was any bone breakage," Mowbray told Rovers PlayerHD.

"Both were clear on their x-rays so they are having MRI scans today (Thursday) to see the extent of potential ligament damage. We await the result of those so lets hope they are pretty minor.

"The boys won't really know, they've been in leg braces so it has immobilised that part of the body so until we've had the scans we won't have much information.

"Experience tells me that if it is ankle ligament injuries then they aren't going to make the next four weeks, so mentally anything other than that is a bonus for us, we are mentally preparing to play the last six games without those two but lets hope that's not the case.

"It gives an opportunity to somebody else, it is fine, we have to get on with it, we've got some experienced central defenders waiting in the wings, lets see if they can step up to the mark."
