Emnes' Wigan winner up for Championship award!

7 April 2017

Marvin Emnes' stunning strike against Wigan Athletic has been shortlisted for the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month award for March.

The Dutchman produced a sublime piece of skill to control Jason Steele's pin-point pass, before advancing towards the edge of the area and burying the ball in the bottom corner.

Emnes' fantastic finish, which secured a 1-0 win at Ewood Park, is up against Tom Barkhuizen's goal for Preston North End against Reading and Joe Newell's volley for Rotherham United away to QPR.

The nominees:

Tom Barkhuizen – PRESTON NORTH END v Reading – 11th March
Barkhuizen scored his first Preston goal in style. Finishing off a fluent move, his sweeping shot from the edge of the area traced a beautiful arc on its way to goal.

Marvin Emnes – BLACKBURN ROVERS v Wigan Athletic – 4th March
A sublime individual effort from Emnes that showcased his instant control and ability to dribble at speed, jink inside two defenders and fire a low shot inside the near post.

Joe Newell – Queens Park Rangers v ROTHERHAM UNITED – 18th March
Seizing on Danny Ward’s knockdown, Newell didn’t hesitate as he caught a left-foot half-volley from 30 yards so sweetly, it was still rising as it struck the back of the net.

The winner will be decided by a fan poll on skysports.com and will be announced on Friday April 14th. Voting closes on Tuesday April 11th. Get voting now!

Emnes' superb strike will be included in Rovers' Goal of the Season competition, which will be launched at this Saturday's home game against Barnsley.
