Great to get that first win

19 September 2016

Sam Gallagher was delighted to cap a fine display with a goal as Rovers earned their first victory of the season with a 4-2 win over Rotherham United.

The young striker put in an outstanding performance at Ewood Park on Saturday, thoroughly deserving of his man-of-the-match award.

After Craig Conway, Marvin Emnes and Ben Marshall had all found the back of the net, Gallagher saw several efforts saved and a header strike the bar, before finally finding the back of the net in added time.

"To get the goal at the end topped it off and there was a bit of gift from Marvin but I'll take every single one," he told Radio Rovers after the game.

"I'd had a few chances and when the header came off the post I thought it might not be my day, so to get that one at the end was a nice touch.

"Even though we were leading in the game we showed great character to keep striving for more goals.

"We definitely feel that we deserved to win the game throughout, at 3-1 we felt like we were in control so when they got the second goal it obviously put us under a bit of pressure so to get that fourth made it easier for the last couple of minutes.

"That first win is out of the way now so I think all the boys have that confidence, we just now want to keep the momentum and keep going."
