Owen Coyle believes Rovers have added a player of genuine quality with the deadline day capture of Charlie Mulgrew.

Following his release from Celtic in the summer, the Scottish international has made the move to Ewood Park, putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.

The Rovers boss feels that with Mulgrew's versatility, experience and winning mentality he'll be a huge addition to the squad.

"We absolutely delighted, Charlie Mulgrew is a player that I've known for a number of years," said Coyle. "He's an international player with Champions League and European experience and a real top player at Glasgow Celtic.

"There's been a number of clubs who have been interested in trying to get him on board so we are delighted to bring him to the club.

"He brings not only that level of experience and quality, but Charlie can play in a couple of different areas. He's a top player and I'm delighted to secure his signature.

"As flexible as he is, he's an outstanding player wherever he plays. I see him playing an important role for us, he has real leadership qualities, he has wonderful set-play delivery and he's a threat at 6' 3", so he has many fine attributes.

"He's a wonderful footballer, I really good type and a really good guy, and he gives us that strength in depth and quality that we need.

"Charlie had the choice of a number of clubs and that sends out a message to everybody that we are capable of signing very good players at the club.
