Villa next for development squad

31 October 2016

Rovers' Under-23s are back in Premier League 2 action this Monday night when they take on Aston Villa at Walsall's Banks's Stadium.

Damien Johnson's side will want to get back to winning ways after suffering a narrow loss seven days ago at the hands of West Bromwich Albion.

The honours were shared when Rovers took on Aston Villa last season with both matches ending in 2-2 draws.

At Villa Park in November, goals from Lewis Mansell and Scott Wharton saw Rovers race into a two-goal half-time lead, but the hosts rallied in the second half to earn a point.

Then in April Rovers claimed the point their required to reach the end of season play-offs in a exciting encounter at Leigh Sports Village.

After a Villa had taken an early lead, Anton Forrester levelled from the spot before Joe Rankin-Costello put Rovers in front. However the visitors struck late to ensure a draw.

Kick-off is at 7.00pm, updates from the Banks's Stadium will be available via the website and twitter.
