Rovers' development squad earned a point on their travels on Monday night with a hard-fought goalless draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Damien Johnson's side went into the Premier League 2 clash in good heart with three wins in their last four outings, but had to settle for a share of the spoils at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.
With the first team in action against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, it was a young Rovers side who took to the field at Crawley, with just Connor Mahoney, Scott Wharton and Ryan Nyambe offering any first team experience.
Andy Fisher in the Rovers goal saved a Solly March effort early on, before Willem Tomlinson tried his luck from distance, but it didn't trouble the Seagull's goal in a first half that was light on goalmouth opportunities.
The second half saw Rovers start the stronger of the two sides, Lewis Mansell heading a Jack Doyle cross just wide, before Mahoney grazed the top of the crossbar from a corner kick.
The chance of the match came Rovers' way just past the hour mark, but young midfielder Joe Rankin-Costello headed wide when well placed.
The closing stages saw the two teams continue to work hard to create openings, but with both defences on top there were no further chances.
"I felt we controlled the game in terms of possession, but we just couldn't get the final break which is a little bit frustrating," said Johnson.
"It was a decent game and lots of our play was good, we just couldn't create in front of goal."
