Boss Owen Coyle has revealed that Craig Conway will lead the team out as captain this afternoon when Rovers take on Ipswich Town at Ewood Park.

With Jason Lowe suspended for today's match, the Scot will take over the armband, and his manager believes it is something that he fully deserves.

"Craig Conway will be the captain of the team," confirmed the Rovers boss.

"It is a great honour because he has earned it. He's a terrific role model for everybody at the club, he is - just as Jason Lowe is - Blackburn Rovers through and through. He wears his heart on his sleeve.

"I think he'll be excited and I think he'll be honoured by it because of how he feels about Blackburn Rovers."

Coyle has been delighted with the performances from the winger since arriving at the club, admitting that he was always an admirer of Conway. But now having seen him at close-quarters he admits he didn't realise how good a player he is.

"You always admire players when you see them from afar but then when you get to work with them on a daily basis you actually see the qualities that they've got," added Coyle.

"In Craig Conway's case there is no doubt it has been enhanced. His work-rate, his application, he gives you everything you've got and that is the sort of player we want at this club.

"He has leadership qualities, he loves to win, even in the training games. I love his drive and his passion and he wants to do well for his club."
