Wes Brown has tipped fellow defender Scott Wharton to have a bright future at Ewood Park.

Wharton has made four appearances for the first team this season and is expected to captain Rovers' development squad in this evening's Checkatrade Trophy match away at Carlisle.

Former Manchester United and England star Brown has been impressed with what he has seen from Wharton since joining the club this summer, and believes the Blackburn-born youngster has everything to have a long career with Rovers.

"I remember the first game that Scotty came on this season I thought he did really well," said Brown.

"It is different for the defenders because if you make a mistake you are in trouble, but he's been excellent in games, excellent in training and I'm sure if the gaffer has got faith in him then he will play him.

"He does look like a good confident you lad and that is all you need when you are younger, a bit of confidence and a bit of help now and again.

"I'm sure in a couple of years time he'll be up there with one of the best centre backs.

"He's got everything that he needs to do it, so as long as he listens, learns and listens to what all the coaches say to him he's got a great chance."

Fans travelling to Brunton Park for tonight's Checkatrade Trophy match can pay on the day. Admission prices are £10 Adults, £5 Concessions.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm, full match commentary will be available on Rovers PlayerHD.
