Damien Johnson is calling on his side to repeat the performance of their previous Checkatrade Trophy group match, but to get the points on this occasion.
The development squad narrowly lost their opening match 1-0 to Fleetwood back in August, but it was the display at the Highbury Stadium that gave the young Rovers plenty of hope going into tonight's tie against Carlisle United.
Johnson knows it won't be easy against a Carlisle side that are yet to taste defeat in all competitions this season, including a 5-4 win over Oldham in their opening Checkatrade Trophy group match, but it is a game that everyone is looking forward to.
"It was a good performance on the night from the guys," said Johnson.
"We obviously didn't get the result, but there was loads of pleasing things about it and I think they enjoyed it, so we are really looking forward to Tuesday.
"I said before the Fleetwood game that I thought it was a great competition, especially for us. Other people have their opinions, but we really enjoyed the evening at Fleetwood pitting our wits against experienced league players and this is another opportunity for us.
"We know Carlisle have had a good start to the season, they are unbeaten and it is going to be a really difficult evening but we are looking forward to it.
"We know we've got a decent group, but they've still got a lot to learn and a lot to do in terms of their development. But the good thing about the group is that they've all got a terrific attitude and they know they are not the finished article and know that they've to keep working on their game.
"So as long as they keep doing that they've got a chance. How many? It is hard to say, but the fact is that the group drives each other on and it is a pleasure working with them every day."
Tickets for tonight's match will be on sale at Brunton Park priced at £10 Adults, £5 Concessions.
