Charlie Mulgrew was delighted to play his part in upsetting the odds as his goal helped Rovers to a 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

The defender's second half volley, his first in Rovers colours, helped the Lancastrians to a sixth league victory in their last seven league appearances at St. James' Park.

"It was a good game today, we played well, we defended well, we knew we'd have to coming here," the Scottish international told Rovers PlayerHD after the match.

"The big thing was about Newcastle and about them getting their tenth win in a row but we knew that it was about us and that was our main aim, so to get the goal and then hold them off, we're delighted.

"I don't think anybody outside our changing room really gave us a chance, but we all believed in ourselves and really took advantage of being underdogs.

"We battled well, it was a great team performance, everybody fought to the end and that is what it is going to take in the next few games."

The versatile Rover, who has played in midfield, at full back and in the centre of defence so far during his fledgling Rovers career, also had a word of praise for the travelling supporters.

"The fans were great, they couldn't have put them any further away from the pitch at this stadium but you could still hear them," he added.

"That helped us on the pitch and we really appreciated it, they were great today."

Rovers are back in action next Saturday when Huddersfield Town are the visitors to Ewood Park. Tickets are on open sale priced from £22 for Adults, £14 for Concessions and £9 for Juniors under 18.
