We have to wary of Rudy

Corry Evans is looking forward to renewing old acquaintances when Rovers take on Aston Villa this Saturday afternoon.

For Evans and co could come up against former Ewood favourite Rudy Gestede.

The Benin international averaged a goal every other game during his 18-month spell with Rovers, before securing a £6m move to the Premier League with Villa in the summer of 2015.

Gestede has been in and out of the Aston Villa side so far this season, but still has three goals to his name, and the midfielder knows he'll be a huge threat if he lines up against Rovers later today.

"Rudy is a great fella," Evans told Rovers PlayerHD. "He got on with everyone - all the players, all the staff and everyone around the training ground. He had a real rapport with the fans.

"He came in and took the place by storm with the way he played. It was like Craig Conway crossed the ball and Rudy would score, that was the way we were scoring our goals at one stage.

"He's probably the best header of a ball I've ever played with. Until you see it up close in training every day, you realise how powerful and strong he is in the air.

"Fair play to him. He came in and did the business, and got a move to the Premier League.

"Obviously I don't think it's worked out as well as he would have hoped at Villa, but he's still a great player, a great aerial threat and if he plays on Saturday, he's one that we'll have to be on our toes about.

"I'm surprised that he's not been playing. Last season, they had different managers, but I know Steve Bruce and I think Rudy would be his type of player - he likes to get crosses into the box - but then you have to look at Villa's strength up front as well, they've got Jonathan Kodjia and Ross McCormack, who they've signed for double figures transfer fees in the Championship.

"So that just goes to show the money they've got and the strength of their squad."

Tickets for today's match will be on sale from the away ticket kiosk on Witton Lane next to the away turnstiles.
