Sam: A shame the goal wasn't a matchwinner

Sam Gallagher insists Rovers have to start putting teams to the sword if they are to start climbing the table.

It was a bittersweet evening at Ewood Park on Saturday as the 21-year-old centre-forward fired Rovers in front against Wolves in emphatic fashion, only for the home side to concede a second half equaliser to only take a point from the game.

Whilst Gallagher was pleased with his goal, he knows that Rovers had plenty of opportunities to put the game to be and understands that he and the rest of the team have to be on the front foot more to ensure late goals don't prove costly.

"I was extremely happy with that one," Gallagher told Radio Rovers after the match.

"It was just one of those ones where you don't even feel it hit your foot, it has just come off so cleanly, so to see it hit the back of the net was really good. At senior level that goal is right up there, I'm chuffed to bits with it.

"But it is frustrating that any goal is not a matchwinner, especially at home in front of our fans, it is a big shame.

"Even if we do get the lead we still need to keep playing the way we’re playing and push on, rather than we get the goal and then sit off and let teams attack us.

"It feels like we have been in this position too many times and it is something that we need to sort out and I'm sure we will."

Gallagher and Rovers are back in action next Saturday when they travel to take on Aston Villa.
