Damien Johnson was delighted to see his side come from behind to claim the Senior Cup spoils over Oldham at Leyland on Tuesday night.
Having faced the Latics seven days earlier in the Checkatrade Trophy, the two sides met for a chance to progress through to the quarter-finals of the Lancashire Senior Cup.
Oldham grabbed an early lead through Calaum Jahraldo-Martin, but a penalty from Connor Mahoney, followed by a superb second half strike by Connor Thomson saw the young Rovers prevail.
"We were really pleased with the result because we've had some decent performances without getting the result recently," Johnson told Rovers Player HD.
"The performance especially was outstanding, right through the team, on the ball and off the ball, so we were really delighted.
"We had some opportunities early but we didn't take them, they're a good team, they had a lot of league experience so they were always going to have a little spell.
"Their goal was disappointing but we reacted well and we knew at half-time that having got the goal back we would have a good chance. We talked about a couple of things that we needed to improve on and they did it.
"We kept doing the right things, we didn't panic, we kept on the front foot, Connor Mahoney and Ryan Nyambe were causing them a lot of problems down the right hand side so we knew we'd get other chances.
"That has been an issue for us, turning them into goals, it is something we are working on but it was good to get the second goal of course.
"So we were really pleased, we had some really good individual performances."
The development squad return to Premier League 2 action next Monday night when they travel to Dagenham to face West Ham United.
