Corry Evans’ Northern Ireland took a step towards World Cup qualification with an impressive 4-0 victory over Azerbaijan.
The Rovers midfielder played 81 minutes at a rain-soaked Windsor Park, as Michael O’Neill’s men replaced their opponents in second place in Group C.
The hosts led 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Kyle Lafferty and Gareth McAuley, and the points were made safe after the break following goals from Conor McLaughlin and Chris Brunt.
The win leaves Northern Ireland five points behind group leaders Germany from four games played.
Elsewhere in Group C, Norway lost 2-1 away to the Czech Republic, with Rovers winger Martin Samuelsen not involved for the visitors.
There was disappointment also for defensive duo Gordon Greer and Charlie Mulgrew, who both watched from the Wembley stands as England eased to a 3-0 victory over Scotland.
The defeat sees Gordon Strachan’s side slip to fifth in Group F, with just four points from their four games.
