A fully deserved victory

Jason Lowe felt Rovers were always capable of causing an upset as they defeated league leaders Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Rovers captain put in a key performance in the centre of midfield as Charlie Mulgrew's second half strike secured yet another win on Tyneside.

Rovers have an excellent recent record at St. James' Park, with Saturday's win their 6th league triumph in their last seven visits, a win that Lowe felt was fully deserved.

"We knew we had it in us," Lowe told Rovers PlayerHD post-match.

"We came here with nothing to lose in terms of where we were in the table, and I think everybody bar ourselves wrote us off. I think it worked in our favour, they maybe underestimated us.

"But I'm not going to take anything away from the way we worked and the way we played with the ball, I thought we were outstanding to a man and fully deserved the victory.

"Like anything in life it is always nice to prove people wrong and thankfully we have done that today and deservedly so.

"They had a couple of spells in the second half where Steely has had to make a couple of saves but I never really felt that they threatened us. I thought we were organised, we made it difficult for them and we fully deserved the win.

"It is back-to-back victories for us and it is important, but what we can't do is get carried away and think we are the best team in the world because there is still a lot to build on, still plenty of games ahead and plenty that we need to win.

"So we won't get carried away, it is a fantastic victory for us, it is a great feeling to get back into the dressing room and the feel-good factor and hopefully we can kick on from this now.

"We showed a lot of character and hopefully we've turned the corner and can keep going and put a little bit of consistency together."
