Defensive change had the desired effect

Paul Lambert felt a change in formation worked wonders as Rovers defeated Rotherham United 1-0 on Saturday.

The Rovers boss surprised many when the team took to the field at the New York Stadium as they lined up with three at the back.

Having played at left back for the last few weeks, Matt Kilgallon was back in the familiar surroundings at the heart of the defence, but this time he was alongside Shane Duffy and captain Grant Hanley, whilst Ben Marshall and Matt Grimes played as wing-backs.

Lambert was delighted with the way the defence performed as they kept a clean sheet and claimed all three points in the penultimate match of the season.

"I decided at the beginning of the week that I was going to do it," Lambert told Rovers PlayerHD. "We worked on it during the week.

"I thought it was great, I thought the back lads, Matty, Shane and Grant were outstanding, along with Jason.

"I thought the whole team was fantastic."

Rovers bring the curtain down on the 2015-16 season next Saturday when Reading are the visitors to Ewood Park in the 12.30pm kick-off.

Tickets are on open sale priced from £18 for Adults, £12 for Seniors and 18-21 year-old, and from £7 for Juniors aged 17 and under.
