Matt Grimes has spoken of his surprise and delight at being called up to the England Under-21 squad.
The on-loan midfielder is one of three new faces in Gareth Southgate's 22-man selection for their forthcoming UEFA European Championship Qualifier against Switzerland in Thun on Saturday 26th March.
Grimes, who has previously played and captained England's Under-20s, wasn't expecting the call, but believes his short-term move to Ewood has helped him, having made seven appearances for the club since joining from Swansea City last month.
"It is unbelievable, obviously it is a massive honour to represent your country at any level and I'm buzzing to go away," said the 20-year-old.
"I didn't really expect it to be honest so the surprise has made it even sweeter.
"I think playing games is what you need as a youngster and getting a run in a Championship side like I have, has definitely made a difference coming here.
"I've played with a lot of them before with the Under-20s last year and there are some top class players in that squad so I'm really looking to going and getting started."
Grimes joins Tony Watt, Grant Hanley, Shane Duffy and Darragh Lenihan in having been called up for next week's internationals.
