Honesty is always the best policy ... as Rovers fan Shaun Greenlees will testify!
As the final whistled sounded at Rovers’ recent home game against Middlesbrough, man-of-the-match Danny Graham booted the ball into the crowd in celebration.
The ball landed in the lap of Blackburn End season ticket holder Shaun, who thought nothing of it when he decided to take it home as a special souvenir.
However, son eight-year-old Harry had other ideas, informing his dad that it was the wrong thing to do, so Shaun contacted the club to inform staff of the situation.
To reward their honesty, Rovers asked goalscorer Graham to present the pair with a ball signed by the entire first team squad, in exchange for the official matchball, ahead of Tuesday’s game against Birmingham.
Shaun said: “When players throw their shirts into the crowd, they are theirs to keep, so I didn’t think anything of it. But on the way back in the car, Harry said that he wanted to take the ball back, because it wasn’t ours and I have to agree, it was the right thing to do.
“It was a fantastic gesture by the club to give us the signed ball and Harry described it as the best footballing day of his life. He got to see the players close-up in the tunnel, meet Danny, who presented us with the ball and then we went on to win the game. He loved every minute of it!”
