Paul Lambert hailed an outstanding display as Rovers defeated Middlesbrough 2-1 at Ewood Park.

Hope Akpan headed Rovers in front moments into the second half before Danny Graham doubled the home side's advantage.

Adam Forshaw got one back for the visitors, but it was mere consolation as Rovers claimed a deserved three points.

"It was brilliant, the lads were excellent and I'm proud of them," Lambert told Radio Rovers.

"From the off I thought we were outstanding and I thought we were worthy winners.

"They are a good side, they've spent an awful amount of money and expect to be up there, but I thought on the night we were different class.

"From 1-11 and the subs that came on, it was a massive performance, we were a threat all night.

"We needed big performances and that is what we got."
