Rovers’ Premier League Cup adventure ended at the semi-final stage, as Cardiff City ran out 3-0 winners.

Gemma Donnelly’s side made a bright start, as Lynda Shepherd tested the Cardiff keeper early on, before Sophie Jones dragged a shot wide and Natasha Fenton saw an effort tipped over the bar.

Against the run of play, Cardiff opened the scoring on 35 minutes when Kerry Bartlett headed home from a corner.

The hosts then doubled their lead six minutes later when Cara Bickett’s attempted clearance looped over Danielle Hill in the Rovers goal.

Rovers again made a positive start to the second half, with Jess Holbrook seeing a shot from distance gathered by the keeper and Ainsley Strickland firing just wide, before Cardiff secured their place in the final when Hope Suominen slid the ball under Hill, who made a superb point-blank save late on.

ROVERS: Hill, Bickett, Fleming, Flynn, Fenton, Holbrook, Jones, Kinvig, Shepherd, Strickland, Taylor.
