Rovers' futsal A team have been confirmed as champions of FLT Futsal North West League One after pipping Huddersfield Town for top spot on goal difference.

The title charge has been led by prolific striker Matty Bulcock, who took his tally to exactly 50 goals, and an overall century during his two seasons in blue and white halves. He is second only to Crewe Alexandra's Nick Marley in the nationwide scoring charts and will be a hot property in the game when his two-year BTEC with the Blackburn Rovers Community Trust ends this summer.

With the B team also reaching the League Two play-offs after coming third in the division, it means that Rovers will visit Birmingham twice in the space of a week for the national finals, with the A team in the Midlands next Wednesday and the B team making the trip on Tuesday 21st June in chase of silverware.

Coach Chris McGrail was delighted with the double success, and admits that he can't wait for the chance to potentially end the season as national champions. He said:

"The key to our BTEC in Sport is that we spend two years improving a group of 16 and 17-year-olds as individuals, with great qualifications behind them when they leave, but the chance of glory that comes with the futsal package adds some great excitement along the way.

"Our group has worked hard to maintain high standards on the pitch and in the classroom all season, and it will be a great send-off for some of the older players if they can leave Ewood Park with a trophy that the quality of their performances deserve.

"The promising thing is that many of these players are still only in their first year, so we have a chance to build a successful team that could go on to be even better next year, especially with our new 11 a side team being added to the BTEC package next year."

Applications are still open to be a part of next season's scholarship, which is perfect for high school leavers or anyone wanting to change the direction of their sixth form studies.
