New signing Jack Byrne jumped at the chance to continue his development here at Rovers.

The Manchester City midfielder has joined on a season-long loan and can’t wait to get going.

“I’m absolutely delighted and I cannot wait to get started,” said the 20-year-old Irishman.

“I know even when the fixtures came out the other day, I was looking at them and you get excited and you get a little tingle in your stomach.

“I’ve had that feeling since I spoke to Owen (Coyle) and since he asked me to come and play. It was a no-brainer for me straight away.

“It’s an unbelievable club, which has won the Premier League, so hopefully I can help the boys out and we can kick on this season.”

Byrne, who spent last season on loan at Dutch top-flight side SC Cambuur, where he scored four goals in 27 appearances, said he needed little persuading from the new Rovers boss.

“He didn’t really have to sell it much,” added the Republic of Ireland international.

“Once I spoke to him and heard where I was going to play and the plans he had for this season, and his enthusiasm for the season going forward, it was a no-brainer for me.

“I only had to have a five-minute conversation with him and I put the phone down and said ‘yes, let’s get this deal done’.

“So I’m looking forward to it and I really can’t wait to get started and to meet the fans at the first game of the season. I’m excited.”
