Owen Coyle has revealed that he has already started the search for additions to his Blackburn Rovers squad.
Coyle was confirmed as the new Rovers boss on Thursday and immediately set to work to bolster the playing staff.
The former Republic of Ireland international has admitted that there is plenty of work to do to get a squad ready to challenge for the rigours of the Championship, but that process is already under way.
"There is no getting away from it in terms of the squad that we have inherited that there are certain positional needs within that squad," Coyle told Rovers PlayerHD.
"We don't have a registered striker at the club and there are other areas that I would like to improve on, so that is something I've already started on.
"It is important that we try and bring some good players to the club that can add to the very good players that we already have in the squad.
"We'll work with the funds that are made available to us and do our very best to get those players in that can excite the fans and try and put a team together.
"That will be key in terms of recruitment, to try and get the best players available for the funding we have and look to add to the squad we've got."
In an ideal world Coyle would love to have everything in place by the time the squad reassembles for pre-season training at the end of June, but he knows that that won't be the case.
He added: "Any manager would tell you that they would love to have their squad in for the first day of pre-season but that will never happen for a number of reasons.
"We've got a couple of players at the Euros for instance, so given the length of time that they are involved they'll probably need some rest as well.
"So all in all, we'll look to get those pieces that we can just now before pre-season starts and continually add to that so that come the first day of the season we are ready to start and have a squad that can go and compete in a very tough Championship environment.
"We'll be working our socks off to try and bring those players in that can help this team, have a good pre-season and put those bits in place that can help us over the course of the season."
