Delighted with the exercise

30 July 2016

Boss Owen Coyle was once again pleased with the work that the players got through as they drew 1-1 with Girona at Ewood Park.

Ben Marshall fired the home side in front on 27 minutes with a wonderfully worked goal, but the Spanish side levelled soon afterwards through Samuelle Longo.

Rovers were denied victory by two magnificent second half saves from Girona keeper Rene as the match ended all square.

"I was pleased with how this afternoon went," the Rovers boss told Rovers PlayerHD.

"I knew it was going to be a real test as Girona have missed out in the play-offs to go to La Liga in the last two seasons, so obviously they play at a similar level to ourselves.

"Technically we knew that they would pass and move the ball very well and I felt that in the last 15 minutes when we had made a lot of substitutions we kinda lost a little bit of the impetus, but prior to that some of our play was terrific.

"We scored a wonderful goal, our build-up to it was great. We were comfortable on the ball, passing and moving.

"Their keeper has had to produce two wonder saves in the second half from Shane Duffy and then Darragh Lenihan, one in the top corner, one low down in the bottom corner, two magnificent saves.

"Then when we had to defend against good players we did it, so all in all I was delighted with the exercise, it allowed us good minutes in preparation for next week against Norwich City.

"And I thought the fans that came out were great, they got behind the team and the players really enjoyed that."
