Owen Coyle was delighted with the workload that the players got through in Tuesday night's 1-1 draw with Rochdale.
Despite the humid conditions, six players got 90 minutes under their belts, as Rovers were given a thorough workout at Spotland.
"It was important that some of the lads got 90 minutes," the Rovers boss told Rovers PlayerHD.
"You could see at the end there was a little bit of fatigue, and obviously we had a few players missing due to injury and illness, so that meant there was an onus on a lot of the boys who played to get that 90 minutes.
"We had a game for the younger ones against York as well, so all in all it was a wonderful exercise.
"I asked them before the game to make sure we got the fitness from it, and it has took a contender for goal of the season for us to lose our first goal of the pre-season and we had some wonderful chances to get goals.
"But I thought it was a great exercise against a good Rochdale team that just missed out on the play-offs last year. So I'm delighted for the players that took part."
Rovers are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Bloomfield Road to take on Blackpool.
