Paul Lambert felt there were promising signs with the way the front two of Jordan Rhodes and Danny Graham linked up on Saturday.
Fresh from signing on loan from Sunderland until the end of the season, the Rovers boss handed a debut to forward Graham in the 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic.
The manager felt the pair showed good awareness of each other and was encouraged by what he saw.
"The front two, I thought were very, very good," said Lambert.
"Danny coming in for his first game was excellent, and Jordan looked more like his self. His header was excellent from a terrific cross from Adam.
"But Danny Graham certainly gave everyone a massive lift. His all-round game, his link-up play, it was really pleasing.
"I thought the two of them were excellent I really did, and if they can keep that partnership then that will be great.
"So there was plenty of encouragement there."
