Tom Lawrence has returned to parent club Leicester City following the conclusion of his loan spell at Ewood Park.
The Welsh international joined Rovers in August on an initial loan until the beginning of January, which was then extended by a further four weeks.
"Tom is going back," confirmed boss Paul Lambert after Saturday's cup-tie at Oxford. "As I said at the time it was always going to be a dangerous thing because his agent wanted this one month thing.
"I knew it was dangerous, it was never going to work that because this can happen.
"Obviously Tom wants to exercise it as well because he's got the Euros to come and has probably seen Tony come in and thought maybe that's his chances limited.
"But credit to him, I thought he was excellent when he come on and so he goes away with a big thanks from myself, he gave us everything and that is testament to himself."
The 22-year-old made 23 appearance, scoring two goals.
