Paul Lambert has told his players to be aware of the situation that they find themselves in at the wrong end of the table.
Saturday's loss at Hull City saw Rovers slip to 19th in the table, five points off the bottom three.
But with a heavy fixture schedule of ten games in 33 days, the manager knows the opportunity is there for Rovers to pull well clear, starting with tonight's match against a Fulham side one place above them.
"We've got to look over our shoulders and realise where we are," said the Rovers boss.
"Okay there is still a little gap but it isn't healthy and that is the bottom line.
"Rob Kelly made a good point, you can sleepwalk into something, and before you know it you are in it.
"So we better wake up, we shouldn't be in the position we are in, but we are. We have good players in the building and we should be winning more games than we have so we have to arrest that slide.
"We need one or two more wins to make sure that aren't involved, we have to turn performances into wins."
