Rovers have stolen a march on some of the biggest clubs in Europe - thanks to a season ticket holder and life-long fan!
Russell Woods, who has been coming to games at Ewood Park since he was six, has granted the club exclusivity to sell his Rovers-branded USB connectors, but the 58-year-old soon hopes to have his globally-patented product stocked by the likes of Liverpool, Feyenoord and Bayern Munich!
“The first game I ever came to see was a 7-2 home win against Spurs in 1963 and I’ve been coming ever since,” said Russell, who hails from Bamber Bridge and celebrates his 59th birthday tomorrow.
“The idea came about when I was in Thailand and I saw an old fella struggle to unplug his iPhone, so we looked into it, came up with the idea, we’ve patented it and Apple are going to buy it from us.
“It’s going global already - we’re talking to football clubs in Holland and Germany, as well as clubs in the UK, but we wanted to be absolutely sure they arrived at a certain place first ... and that’s right here at Ewood Park!
“You can’t buy an Apple charger in the UK for less than £12, but you can buy a Cablicons cable that says Blackburn Rovers on it for £14, so it’s a bit of a no-brainer for Rovers fans really. The club are getting something out of it and, as a fan, I am as well, so I’m really proud to be honest and hopefully it will make me the next Jack Walker!”
