Paul Lambert was pleased to see Darragh Lenihan sign a new long-term deal with the club.
The Rovers midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a new deal that sees him contracted until the summer of 2019.
The manager has been impressed with the 21-year-old since arriving at the club and predicts big things in the future for Lenihan.
"I think it is good for the club, coming through the ranks as well he's one of our own," said Lambert.
"He was coming out of contract, but with the way he has been playing then it is great for us that this has happened.
"I think he's deserved it since we've been here, I think he's got a really good chance to be a good footballer if he keeps his feet on the ground.
"Before we came in he was at Burton but he never really had a chance here. I remember watching him against Preston in an Under-21 game and I thought he was somebody worth keeping an eye on and then I watched him down at Aston Villa and I thought he was excellent.
"Slowly but surely we've given him that opportunity to get in and, without putting too much pressure on him, he's got a chance."
