The date has been set for Rovers Ladies’ Lancashire FA Women Challenge Cup final against Preston North End.
The two teams will meet at the LFA County Ground in Leyland on Thursday April 7th, kick-off 7.30pm.
Rovers, who the are the holders, booked their place in a 13th successive final courtesy of a 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers, whilst Preston thrashed Blackburn Community Sports Club 9-0.
Today, Gemma Donnelly’s side turn their attentions to the Premier League Cup and a quarter-final tie at home to Sporting Club Albion.
“After weeks of having to delay the game due to our commitments in the other cup competitions, we are looking forward to getting the game on,” said Donnelly.
“We played Sporting Club Albion at home in the league earlier in the season and although we won 2-0, it was a really tough game. They are a very physical and direct side, but we coped with it well.
“This will be another very tough game, but we go into it with plenty of confidence. We’re on a good run and we’ve already surpassed the stage we reached last season. We want to do as well as we can in all cup competitions, so hopefully we can progress to the semi-finals.”
Rovers will be without forward Ali Johnson and midfielder Vicky Westerman, who have both left the club.
Donnelly added: “Ali has been at the club for nine seasons and progressed through our Centre of Excellence.
“This year, she has progressed from the Reserves into the Ladies first team, where she was a lively addition to the squad. She joins Liverpool Ladies and although I feel it is an untimely move, both for her and for us, I wish her a very successful future in football.
“Vicky has also left the club. She has been a loyal servant of Blackburn Rovers for many years and we wish to thank her for the time she has spent at the club.”
