Ryan Nyambe enjoyed his first league start in Saturday's draw with Huddersfield.
The 19-year-old admitted to a few pre-match nerves, but was delighted to get his first 90 minutes at senior level and hopes to make full use of the experience.
"It was a very good game for me to be fair," Nyambe told Radio Rovers. "It was a tough one but I thought I did well and that it was a good point for us in the end.
"The gaffer told me on Tuesday that I was in his thoughts to start, so that got me prepared, then on Friday I found out I was starting.
"I was a little bit nervous the night before but once I was on the pitch I was okay. The gaffer told me to concentrate and the boys got me going, told me to play with a smile on my face."
Nyambe and Rovers were give a tough time in the opening minutes at Ewood Park as Huddersfield grabbed an early lead and threatened further goals, but the defender felt the team grew stronger as the game wore on, to collect what could prove to be a useful point.
He added: "They were good in the first 30 minutes of the first half, but in the second half I felt that we could have got another goal. We wanted to carry on the form that we are in and get the three points that we needed, but it could be an important point today.
"I've been with the club since I was 13, it has been hard work, but it is paying off right now. I want more now, I've got to use this experience."
Rovers are back in action next Saturday when they make the short journey to Deepdale to take on Preston North End.
