Make it a memorable game again

9 December 2016

Hope Akpan is eager to see the travelling support out in their numbers once more when Rovers take on Preston North End this Saturday evening.

The midfielder has fond memories of the same encounter last season at Deepdale when they were roared on to a 2-1 victory by the noisy travelling faithful.

Some 2200 tickets have been sold to date for this weekend's clash, with Akpan hoping for another electric atmosphere.

"It was a big game last year, it was one of the more memorable games," said Akpan.

"There was a really electric atmosphere and hopefully the fans will turn out like they did last year and make the atmosphere great again.

"We've got seven points out of nine now so we've managed to put a bit of a run together.

"We got a great win away at Newcastle and we've picked up other points as well so the feeling is good and it is looking positive and hopefully can continue that throughout December and pick up as many points as we can.

"The Christmas period in the Championship is always massive, there are so many points to play for, we've got three games coming up in the next week and if we can pick up some points in the derby game and the two home games then we'll be in good stead."

Akpan has seen his appearances restricted to a substitute's role in recent weeks, but whilst he knows he'll have to be patient to get his place back in the starting eleven whilst the team is playing well, he has to grasp the chance when it comes around.

He added: "I've had to bide my time for the past month or so, waiting for my opportunity, and the team has done well, it has picked up points, so I just have to wait for a chance and take it when it comes.

"The squad is big, the squad is good, there are a lot of good players in there and everyone is fighting to start the games and do well. Competition has been good and it is only going to help us going forward."
