Rovers Ladies booked their place in the semi-finals of the FA Women’s Premier League Cup with a 3-1 away win over Chester-le-Street on Sunday.

Goals from Lynda Shepherd, Jess Holbrook and Saffron Jordan secured safe passage and stretched their unbeaten run to 17 games in all competitions.

Rovers started the game strongly, creating a wonderful early chance as Shepherd found Holbrook unmarked, but she fired over the bar.

They continued to dominate possession and their pressure eventually paid off on 23 minutes when great build-up play by the visitors eventually lead to Shepherd driving the ball low into the corner of the net.

Chester-le-Street looked to hit back quickly, forcing a series of corner kicks, but Rovers kept the home side at bay.

Ten minutes before the break Rovers had the chance to double their advantage but Faye McCoy couldn't get a meaningful connection to a cross at the back post.

Rovers started the second half in the same vein, Shepherd testing the Chester goalkeeper with a long-range effort. Soon after Gemma Donnelly introduced forwards Ella Toone and Saffron Jordan to give the attack more potency.

However it would be Chester who would grab an equaliser against the run of play. A rash tackle inside the area from Ellie Cook resulted in a penalty kick. Chloe Johnson making no mistake from 12-yards to draw the home side level.

Rovers thought they had regained their advantage when Toone found the back of the net, however her celebrations were cut short by the assistant's flag.

But they maintained the pressure and the second goal duly arrived on 78 minutes. Jordan took advantage of space on the right to pull the ball back from the byline and that allowed Holbrook to fire home.

The game was made safe deep into injury time when Jordan got the goal her play deserved. After seeing her initial shot saved, the forward was first to the loose ball and rounded the keeper to send Rovers through to the last four of the competition where they'll play either Cardiff City, Charlton Athletic or Tottenham Hotspur.

ROVERS: Hill, Whitham, Cook, McDonald, Pearson, Fenton, Shepherd, Holbrook, Rankin (sub Jordan 54 mins), McCoy, Taylor (sub Toone 54 mins).
