Delighted for Darragh

2 December 2016

Boss Owen Coyle has heaped praise on Darragh Lenihan as the young Irishman is set to reach a personal landmark this weekend.

If Lenihan plays against Huddersfield Town this Saturday, it will be the 22-year-old's 50th appearance in a blue and white shirt.

The manager has been delighted with his displays, both in the centre of midfield and the centre of defence, and believes he has the talent to go on to be a top-class footballer for the club.

"I've said from day one that I loved everything about Darragh, how he goes about it, his attitude to training and his quality of play," the Rovers boss told Rovers PlayerHD.

"He's started in the middle of the park and then I felt there was an opportunity at centre-back and he's been outstanding.

"You see the smile on his face, he is enjoying his football and players know when they are playing well and he has been doing that and long may that continue.

"He got a real whack from Mitrovic last week off the ball and was in quite a bit of pain from that, but he's got such a big heart and I think real leadership qualities.

"He's young and he'll improve and he's set for a very good career. All credit to him if he is fit and available then he will play. It will be great for him to continue the run that he is on.

"He has all the attributes needed to be top class centre-back. It is in it's infancy in respect that he is a young player, but the good thing about him is that he is willing to listen and learn, he wants to improve, he wants to get better, that is the type of players that we want and that can only help Blackburn Rovers."
