Community Trust create Christmas cheer

18 December 2016

Christmas proved to be a culinary delight for members of two of Blackburn Rovers Community Trust's special friendship groups for the over 50s.

Two dozen regular participants in our Monday morning line dancing classes and Tuesday morning Jack's Walkers exercise programme - both part of the Sport England-funded Motivate! scheme - came together at Liz N Lil's in Blackburn town centre to further strengthen the friendships they have made whilst coming down to Ewood Park every week.

The sociable group enjoyed a tasty and filling spread courtesy of the comfortable café bar, with transport from Ewood and the chance for a good giggle all part of the bargain.

The two weekly sessions that feed into the regular social events offer more than just a pleasant pastime, as Adrian Ward, Motivate! coordinator for the Community Trust, explains:

"There's always a buzz around the Darwen End every Monday morning from 10am to 11am when our regulars arrive for their dancing or walking session.

"All the participants seem to enjoy each other's company and arrive early or stay late so that they can enjoy a chat and a cup of tea or coffee. It means that we're always seeing new friendships grow and the regular trips to local eateries always prove to be very popular.

"This year's Christmas party was no exception and we're all looking forward to next year's events already. Jen, Dylan, Nick, Catherine and the many other Community Trust staff who look after our guests have a lovely manner with them, and the warm welcome we offer seems to ensure that everybody loves coming back week after week."

If you're aged 50 or over and believe that you could benefit from the fitness or friendship elements offered by one or both classes, please contact Jennifer Calvert via jennifer.calvert@brfctrust.co.uk or call 01254 508305 to find out more about the plans in place for both concepts in 2017.
